This is me & my bff, Kapua. Originally she & her husband, Clancey & their 3 babies were going to be going to Hawaii with us on Thursday. But for reasons that are out of her hands, she & her family are unable to go. I'll miss her terribly while we're gone & will patiently await the next trip that we can go on together. I love you & will miss you when i'm gone!! Take care of mom & everyone else for me ok??

Today was Lani's first time being a part of a show for hula. She assisted Uncle Hui in blessing the 2nd plane for Alaska Airline's Inaugural flights. I even had to make her a lei po'o for her head. Here she is in the jet-way getting ready.

Hitching A Ride

Today Marcel's car had to hitch a ride to World One Performance. A part that we had ordered in May came in yesterday & Marcel installed some stuff to cut down on installation time. When he went to start his car, nothing....no noise, no nothing. He figured out that the fuel pump wasn't even trying to work & after talking with the owner, it wasn't a surprise that when installing this new piece that he may have blown a fuse. So we had the car towed to World One in Kent, got some lunch at a new Hawaiian restaurant, met Russell & Brian at World One again & got his car back in working order!!

What the Funk?

So you may stop by here on a daily basis & check out what I've posted for the day. You're probably asking yourself "why are these pictures so old?" Well the truth is, I've been in a funk lately & have had my camera on me multiple times...I just didn't shoot. I'm not sure why, maybe its because I've been busy with things for my business...i'm not sure. Anyhoo, I just wanted to post up that I'm well aware that my photos are old, but I'm trying to get myself out of this. New ones will be up soon! Thanks! Tanya :)

Burning Near Bernz

So if you haven't heard about the fires in California, you must've been under a rock. There are 8 fires burning all around & near the San Diego area where my hula sister, Bernie, lives. I spoke with her & she, Chris, the boys & Buddy had to evacuate their home. They are staying in a hotel & are uncertain whether their home still stands or not. I love you Bernz & please keep in touch with us!!

Hula Camp #2

Every year halau has 2 hula camps, one in April-ish & the other in November-ish. Well we had the later one this weekend & i'm beat. Hula camp consists of 3 to 4, and sometimes 5 songs. This weekend we learned 1 kahiko with the boys, 1 auana with the boys & 2 auana songs with just us. My brain isn't TOO fried, but my body is a bit achy. What sucks more is that I seemed to have lost a lot of my hula brothers & sisters this weekend. Where'd they all go??

At Home in the Islands

The countdown finally begins. In less than 2 weeks, Marcel, Lani & I will be taking our first family vacation together to Hawaii. We have absolutely NO plans, we're just going from the 1st - 12th & i SO can't wait!! I look forward to lotsa food, jumping in the car with no particular place in mind to go, stopping at Rainbow's for slush float & mahi plate lunch, driving by the beach & getting some great photos & jumping in the water for a bit, going to eat again & hitting up the swap meet. Its gonna be so fun!

Need More Berries...More Berries

That's an inside joke between us hula sisters. During our E Hula Mau trip, we were up late on Saturday night making these Pyrocantha lei (the red berry one). The berries grow on trees in all different sizes. The killer....you have to sort the berries by size so that your entire lei is made up of all the same sized berries. Oh wait, not just one lei.....oh no, that would be toooooo simple. You need 5 strands, the same length, with the same sized berries. After awhile we were quoting movies & laughing at nothing & I was rocking back & forth saying "berries, more berries, need more berries" crazy-ness.....

This is my hula sister, Elaine...LOL Actually her name is Elyze, but she got the name Elaine from the stupid Starbucks guy in CA who obviously wasn't listening to her when she told him her name. From then on she's been known as Elaine. She's been dancing with our halau for over a year now & with our class for 7 months or so, she fits in so well & has come such a long way!!! love you Elaine!

My First Gig

Today was my first shoot under Nymar Imagery. My hula sister, Hoku, asked me to shoot her long time friend, Cheech's wedding. No, Cheech is not her real name. She and Larry decided to have a small courthouse wedding complete with close friends & family & I can't thank Hoku, Cheech & Larry enough for allowing me to photograph this day!

Where's My Moko

This is Tisha, who is my hula sister that i've featured on here more than once. She represented our halau at E Hula Mau this year as our wahine soloist. Last night, our halau performed at the fall Lokahi Ho'olaule'a & Tisha got to perform her kahiko as it was written & as it was originally supposed to be done. You see....in California, while at the judges meeting, Tisha's selection was not highly looked upon by the judges. She received criticism because it was a "hula competition" and by portraying her Maori roots in her song, they felt that it was combining 2 different cultures & it wasn't suggested that she go on using her moko (her family marking on her mouth, or her wrap). So needless to say, she went on stage at EHM without these things & with different words in her song, because the original words were Maori words. But last night....was beautiful. Her performance was BEAUTIFUL!! Here she is just before going on....

Pretty Lights

I have this strange disease...something about different unique things, lights, plants, fixtures, etc has this thing over me. I want to take photos of it & find someone to take pictures with it, next to it, in front of it....weird. This is a light fixture in a hotel in California. It was so beautiful & if only it were on a wall where I could put people in front of it...oh my, the beautiful background it would be!

Family

Family isn't anything....it is EVERYTHING. Everything I do, all that I am is because of what my family has made me & is for my family. If there isn't anyone else to be there for you when things are rough...family will always be there. They may not always agree with what you're doing, but they'll support you. I'm lucky that I not only have my immediate family, i have family all over...my friends are my family.

Speaking of family...this is my first family photo session that I shot....my brother in law's gf, Melisa, her mom & sister.

I received my first official "family photo" inquiry today for my company & i'm so eager to hear back from them.

In The Rain

Who's sick of the rain?? I AM I AM!! I know that i live in the wrong state, but sheesh...maybe if it would've slowly transitioned in to rain, that would've been nicer than just getting straight to it. Here's my Nunu in the rain. Mommies Sprouting Up All Over

So I attended two baby showers, two weekends in a row...and yes, the more that I attend, the more I see the babies, a SMALL part of me kinda wishes I was in there position. ANYWAY, this is Pi'ilani, my long lost hula sissy. We threw her a baby shower at halau this weekend. She is going to be having a little girl in November...she's going to be beautiful!! Speaking of beautiful, how beautiful is Pi'i? She's just glowing, its great!
